It is the nineteenth Surah in Holy Quran. It contains a total of 98 verses that were revealed while the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) was in Mecca.
Similar to other Surahs that were revealed in Mecca, this Surah also concerns the life after death; the fate of evildoers; the rewards for good-doers; and the life of some Prophets, including: Hazrat Zakariyya (A.S), Hazrat Maryam (A.S), Hazrat Isa (A.S), Hazrat Yahya (A.S), Hazrat Ismael (A.S) and many more.
It is mentioned in Tafsir-i-Al-Mizan that, the last few verses of Surah Maryam, reveal its purpose of glad tidings and warnings. This is shown in a beautiful way in a form of a story of the Prophets’ life.
There are no women mentioned in Quran directly by their proper name except for Hazrat Maryam (A.S) and her name is repeated 34 times in the Quran.
Moreover, The only Surah entitled with the name of a woman in the Quran, is this very Surah, Surah Maryam.
There is no doubt, of course, that the one will make himself free from what he wants only by reciting this Surah.
